Disclaimer & Info see Part 1 Destiny, Part 5 + + + + + + 10: 29 PM Long Island, Lennon's Pub Alex Krycek impatiently tapped his fingers on the bar while watching young couples prance around wildly on the dance floor. He shook his head and muttered something about how they all can't dance. He ordered another Budweiser from the bartender and grabbed a handful of peanuts. Just as he raised his glass to his lips, a woman with short blonde hair sat down next to him and batted her eyes at him. He abruptly set down his glass and glared at her. "What the hell do you want from me?!" He shouted over the loud music. "Why, Alex, aren't you glad to see me?" "Marita, I broke up with you. You betrayed me!" He took a large gulp from his glass. "Aww... Alex." Marita pouted her lips and ran her hand down Krycek's chest. "I thought we can... talk... about that." "No! No talking. Talking bad." Krycek moved an inch away from her. "Oh, I agree. Let's skip talking and go straight to bed." She moved closer to him. "Marita, I only came because I thought this was some emergency!" He backed away uncomfortably. "This is. I'm in need of your touch." She leaned in to kiss him, he pulled away with disgust. "Marita!" He jumped off his bar stool. "Well, can I at least buy you a drink?" Marita waved for the bartender. "I have a drink!" Krycek pointed to his glass. "Have another one! I'm buying." Marita patted the bar stool next to her. "Come on, I won't bite." "One drink?" "One drink." She promised. He sighed and sat down. The bartender strolled over. "What will you have?" "A Martini," Marita said, "and I believe the gentleman will have a Long Island Iced Tea?" "Yeah." Krycek nodded and the bartender walked off. "I still know what you like." Marita smiled. She reached into her purse and pulled out a packet of cigarettes, offering them to Krycek. "I've quit." "Since when?" "I know Dana hates that stuff." "Dana." Marita scoffed. She looked to the bartender and nodded her head slowly. Krycek never saw the bartender drop a pill into his drink. "A Martini and Long Island Iced Tea." The bartender said as he set the glasses down. Krycek grabbed his glass and drank it in one gulp. "Okay, I'm out of here." Krycek quickly hopped off the stool. Marita grabbed him by the shoulders and looked at him with pleading eyes. "Please stay with me just for a while." She begged. "God, what the hell do you want from me?!" "You." She said in a sensual voice. Krycek's mouth dropped open but nothing came out. "I..." He was completely speechless. Marita hopped off her stool and took Krycek's by the hand, leading him out of the pub. Once outside, she pushed him against the wall and kissed him. "I've missed you." She breathed. He abruptly pushed her away and jumped into the streets. "No, no, no! This is so god damn wrong!" He muttered. Marita got close to him and kissed him again. But this time, he didn't push her away. + + + + + + July 4th, Wednesday 3: 01 AM "Shit!" Krycek cursed silently as he gathered his clothes off the floor. His head was pounding, his mouth dry as a sponge and his limbs weak. He was incredibly drowsy and felt like he would fall asleep right on the spot. --Did I have that much to drink?-- He wondered. He looked to the sleeping Marita and wondered if she'd drugged him. --Certainly not unlike her-- he thought. He remembered her kissing him passionately and he couldn't refuse. After a while, his eye lids started to get heavy and he could barely command his own body. Marita led him to her apartment and the last thing he remembered was him falling on her bed. He woke up naked in her bed next to her and almost panicked. He threw on his clothes in the dark and took one last look at Marita before hurrying out the door. + + + + + + 5: 14 AM Mulder's Apartment Fox Mulder's phone rang five times before the machined picked it up. "Hi, this is Fox Mulder, I'm not here. Leave a message." The machine answered. After the beep, the voice of a panicked woman came over the phone. "Fox! Fox! WAKE UP!! He's gone!!" The woman hissed. Mulder immediately sat up and grabbed his phone. "What?! Who?!" "Alex! Alex Krycek!" Marita screeched at him. "How the hell did that happen?! The drug was supposed to knock him out until morning!" Mulder rubbed his eyes tiredly. "I don't know! There must be something wrong with the pills you gave me!" "Damn it!" Mulder silently cursed Anna and vowed to get revenge. "Mulder, this is all your fault, I never would've-" "Yeah, yeah. Shut up. Good bye." He slammed the phone down. He burried his face in his hands, with mixed emotions and a desire to murder Krycek. + + + + + + 7: 14 AM Manhatten, 72nd Street Krycek has avoided Scully's gaze all morning long. Whenever she looked at him, he looked away. Whenever she touched him, he nervously pulled back. Finally, she gave up. She flopped down on the leather armchair and watched him walk around the apartment nervously. "What time did you get in last night?" "Huh?" He was visibly distracted. "What time did you get in last night?" She repeated. "Oh... um... I didn't look at the clock." "Is that right?" "Yeah." "Is there anything you'd like to tell-" "Dana, there's something I gotta tell you." He interrupted. He shyly walked over to her and kneeled beside her. "Dana..." "Alex?" "I.. this... this is difficult for me to say. I..." Krycek paused. "What? What is it?" "Look, I uh..." Krycek stood up and started pacing. "All my life, I never had a real relationship... except one. I mean two, if you count ours." "Oh, no." Scully muttered, realizing where this conversation is going. "Look, let me finish. This girl entered my life when I was in college. She was everything I've ever dreamed of. I was very much in love with her. She was beautiful, graceful, caring-" "Gee, let's start off my day listening to you ramble on about how great your ex was." Scully said drily. "Let me finish- she was just a dream come true. She was the first person in my life who treated me as an equal. First woman who really ever cared for me. I mean, I was so lonely at the time, I had no one to trust. But she came and she was there for me. So you'd understand how hard it was for me to lose her?" "I think so." "Good. Good. Uh, she went into a coma, that's how I lost her. She... betrayed me and then went into a coma." "Alex? I've gotta get to work now?" Scully said as she stood up, heading for the door. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Give me a sec." Krycek paused, fumbling for words. "Uh... gee... uh... um.. see, she came out... of the coma and uh... recently she's uh... made... contact... with me." Scully froze and spun aroud. "What?" "Dana... last night?" Krycek took a deep breath. "She was the one who called me." Scully stood in the same spot for a long time, then asked in a trembling voice: "What time did you say you got in last night?" "Uh... I think 4." Krycek said quietly. "4." Scully repeated. Krycek went to Scully and held her hand. "Dana..." he swallowed. "Dana, I slept with her." Scully gasped in disbelief and slowly, very slowly moved towards the door. "You..." Dana swung her hand and made Krycek lose his grasp on her. "Dana, I was drunk. I mean, I think I was drunk, I don't remeber what I did. I think she may even have drugged me. Dana-" "You god damn bastard!" She slapped him hard. He looked at her with puppy eyes. "Don't look at me like that!" "Dana, I'm sorry!" "Whatever the hell happened to 'I can wait'?!" "This has nothing to do with that, I was drunk-" "You know, I... I can't deal with this right now." "Wait, Dana, don't go!" Krycek reached out to her. "I... I have to go... go... go to work." Scully sputtered. She turned quickly and raced out the door, with tears streaming down her face and Krycek desperately calling behind her. + + + + + + 12: 23 PM "Scully? Scully!" Mulder shook his partner. Scully came back from her trance. "Wha?" She asked in a daze. "Lunch?" Mulder set a brown bag down on her desk. "You ordered the salad?" "Huh? Yeah. Thanks." She opened the bag and took out her lunch, but doesn't seem to be focusing on it. Her eyes seem to be staring at a point in space. Mulder looked around, trying to figure out what she was staring at. "Scully!" He called again. "What?!" Scully snapped at him. "Yeesh, calm down!" "Sorry." Scully took off the lid and stuck her fork in the salad. She pushed the vegetables around but didn't eat any of it. "Scully? Haven't your mom told you to never play with your food?" "Hmm?" She barely heard his question. She was too busy phasing out and playing with her salad. "Where's his arm?" Mulder asked. "What?" She looked up and saw him looking at her lunch. She looked down and found that she had unconsciously made a stick figure with her vegetables... a stick figure with a left arm. She used her fork and shoved the vegetables around until the stick figure was gone. Mulder saw this and felt a stab of pain. She was thinking about the damn bastard the entire day. "Scully, is there something you'd like to tell me?" Mulder tried to keep his voice from cracking. "Well..." Scully pushed her lunch aside. "It's just.. this.. guy... I'm seeing." "You're dating?!" Mulder gasped in a joking manner. "Ohmygod! Dana S cully DATING?!" "Mulder..." "Okay, sorry. What's up with the guy?" "He... he's great. He's perfect." Scully had a dreamy look in her eyes and Mulder felt sick to his stomach. Then her eyes turned watery and Mulder smiled. He must have done something wrong. He hid the smile from her and urged her to tell him what's wrong. "Come on, Scully. What's wrong? Tell me." Mulder said in his soothing voice. "I... this guy... he has this ex-girlfriend that he's never quite gotten over." Scully sniffed. "Oh, no." Mulder said sympathetically. "Scully..." "And this morning-" "Wait, this morning? You spent the night with him?" Mulder interrupted. "No. Not really. I mean, I'm staying with him, we've.. no, not yet- Mulder, I don't want to talk about our sex life with you." "Alright. Then tell me about the ex." "He said she's perfect. And this morning he told me that he slept with her last night." "Ouch." Mulder said quietly. But deep inside, he was dancing for joy. --The idiot had told her himself-- Mulder laughed to himself. "Dana, the two timing bastard doesn't deserve you." "But.. I... I don't know." Scully sighed and shooked her head. "Maybe this will help you." Mulder gave his most charming smile. Scully looked at him, wondering what he was going to do. Her eyes widened in surprised as he leaned down and prepared to kiss her. They kissed, she kissed back. When they parted, Mulder smiled confidently. Scully sat in silence for several seconds, with a confused look on her face. Then a smile spread to her face. "Thank you. That did help." Scully touched his hand gently. Mulder smiled proudly. He was sure that she was his now. She jumped up and ran outside. "Hey, where you going?" "I'm going to call him and tell him how much I love him." "What?!" Mulder's mouth dropped open. Scully smiled at him, waved her hand at him and rushed outside. Once a safe distance from the office, when she was sure that Mulder couldn't here their conversation, she pulled out her cellphone and called Krycek. "Hello?" A depressed voice answered after 2 rings. "Alex?" "Dana!" Krycek's voice was suddenly uplifting. "Dana, just listen to me, I never intended to hurt y-" "Shut up." She interrupted. There was silence for a few seconds. "I'm sorry." Krycek said quietly. "Was she the one who bandaged your arm?" Scully asked. "...Yeah. But like I said, I don't trust her." "Alex... I kissed Mulder." She said. More silence. "...If this is your way of getting back at me-" "No, I didn't plan it. It just happened." "....So now what? You going to leave me for him?" He returned to the depressed voice. "No, of course not." "Really?!" The voice was uplifting again. "No. I love you. When I kissed him, I was thinking of you... and I realized how much I love you." "I... I'm speechless." "Speechless?" "Yeah... I... I feel like the luckiest man in the world." "You're not off the hook yet." Scully said sternly. "No, of course not. We... we'll talk about it when you get back, okay? When you coming back?" "Probably late at night. Don't wait up." "I'm going to wait up anyway." "Hey, I gotta go now. I think Mulder's getting suspicious." "Okay, bye." "Bye." She said quietly and hung up the phone. She felt much more happier and enlighted. Of course, there was still the dreaded feeling of having to go back to him and talk about what he did. But for now, she was happy enough to be nearly skipping down the hall to the office. + + + + + + He was completely surprised of her actions. Well, maybe, somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew this was exactly what she would do. A sensible part of him has already accepted the fact that he'd lost her forever already to another man, a man that he has hated for years. But another part of him refused to believe it, the Stubbron Mulder, still believed that he could still win her back. He picked up the phone and punched in a number. "Marita? Another favor." He briefly explained to her what exactly she was to do in a monotonus voice. He hung up just in time, right before Scully happily entering the office. "Hey, Mulder!" Scully grinned. "Dana Scully dating AND grinning? I'm shocked." "Well..." Scully smiled even more as she sat down. "Everything okay with the boyfriend now?" "Can't be better." "Great." Mulder tried to wipe the sour look off his face. "Hey, listen... why don't you take the day off? Go home to him. I'll take care of everything." "Really?" Scully looked up in surprise. "Really. Go." "Well... okay, thanks, Mulder." She picked up her pocketbook, walked to Mulder and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you. I really appreciate it." "No biggie." Mulder tried to shrug it off. Scully squeezed his hand and looked at him in such a way that she had never before. Complete, utter gratefulness. As she turned to go, Mulder called out. "Hey, Scully?" "Yeah?" "That kiss? It.. didn't mean anything. Just wanted you to know that." "Oh, really, Mulder?" Scully rolled her eyes. Then she smiled at him. "Thank you though. I know you were just testing me." Then she happily made her way to the door. Seeing the smile on her face, the cheeriness in her voice and the upbeat way she took her steps, the Stubborn Mulder can't help but slowly give away to the fate Anna spoke of and wonder if he's doing the right thing or just sabotaging his partner's happiness. + + + + + + 12: 52 PM Mulder looked up at the clock. 12: 52. Knowing Scully, she would still be in the parking lot. Besides, she drove slowly. Very, very slow. Exactly why he never let her drive. --If I call the emergency meeting at 1: 30, I can probably be at Krycek's apartment at 3 or so, few minutes after Scully.-- He thought. He yawned and leaned back in his chair. He wondered if he should bring a camera for the occasion. A knock came at the door. "Come in!" He called. The door was threw open and a pretty blonde charged in. "Bastard!" She stormed to Mulder and threw a manilla envelope in his face. "Well, hello, Anna." Mulder responded. "You fucking, lying, god damn bastard!" Anna screamed. "You promised you wouldn't tell him." Mulder looked at the contents inside the envelope. They were empty. But the envelope was addressed to "Mr. Charles Scully" and it was from a "F.M. Luder". "What'd I do?" Mulder smirked. "You sent this to our apartment!" "There wasn't anything in it." He shrugged. "Relax. I just wanted to tease you." "Tease me?! Charles is awfully suspicious now. Tease me?! You want to ruin me!" "Relax! I didn't tell him yet, did I?" "God!" Anna shook her head. "I know what you tried to do with the Rohypnol. It didn't work, did it? So you ask Marita to seduce Krycek one more time. Then in case that it didn't work, you told Rivers to point to Krycek as the murderer and tell the FBI to go arrest Krycek." "How'd you know?" Mulder's face completely dropped. "You been talking to Rivers?" "No. I dunno what you threatened him with but he won't talk. But I talked to a guard who overheard your conversation with him and now I know, Mulder." "Well. Now I know that I'm going have to kill the guard. Don't be too glad that the envelope is empty, Anna. Because that was a tease. Now I really am going to ruin you." Mulder said. Anna looked at him as if she wanted to kill him right then and there. Then she spit on him. Right on his face. Mulder jumped up. "Ugh!" He wiped the spit off his face. "You bitch!" He pulled back his fist and struck Anna in the face. "You're pathetic, you know that?" Anna laughed as she wiped the blood away from the corner of her mouth. "Scully doesn't love you. She's madly, deeply in love with Alex Krycek, get that through your damn fucking head! It's fate. And there is no way she can never love a man like you." "You shut up, you ho!" Mulder waved his fist threateningly at her. "You just stay out of my business, alright?!" "Fox..." Anna laughed and got off the ground. "You've lost it. You've really lost it." "I want you to shut up and get out." Mulder grabbed Anna roughly by the arm and shoved her out the door. "By the way, Anna. Charles will know everything that went on between us. And I mean everything. I can guarantee you that. And if you keep your nose out of my business I just might spare his life, alright?!" He said just before he slammed the door. Anna sighed and rubbed her swollen cheek. There's no way she can come up with a proper explanation to Charles about that. No matter. She was sick and tired of lying to him. Now she can only think of one way to keep Charles by her side. She will tell him everything. Everything, before Mulder tells him. Better to hear it from her than a stranger. She sighed again, then make her slow and dreaded journey back home. + + + + + + 2: 56 PM Marita stood outside the door. Out of the 101 stupidest plans, this has got to be the stupidest ones of them all. So why's she doing this? Was it the temptation of money? Was it Mulder's charms and good looks? Was it revenge towards Krycek? Was it the burning desire of jealousy for Scully? Even she doesn't know. She saw the red head coming. She saw Krycek's black Saab stop in front of the building. She saw the read head climb out of the driver's seat. It seemed only like yesterday when she was the one driving Krycek's beloved Saab. She took a deep breathe and knocked on apartment 1013. The door opened and Krycek answered the door. "You." He said quietly. "Me." Marita pushed past Krycek and walked into the apartment. "Uh, Marita, I don't think it's such a good-" "Oh, shush, Alex. I've been here before." Marita sat down on the armchair. "Marita..." Krycek shooked his head. "Marita, I'm going to have to ask you to leave." Marita's bottom lip quivered, her eyes watered and she pouted. "Aww... Alex." She looked at him with seductive eyes. "Marita, I'm serious, you have to go." "One kiss and I'll go." "No." "One kiss." Marita pleaded. Krycek sighed and hesistated. He finally nodded. He walked to Marita and leaned down to give her a kiss on the cheek. She suddenly jumped up and tightly gripped him around the neck and kissed him passionately on the mouth. It was so familiar to the previous night in the alley. He couldn't push her away. Neither of them noticed the red head walking through the door. He did, however, hear her gasp. "Dana!" He pulled away from Marita and turned to Scully. "Dana, honey, this isn't what it looks like." "T... th... then what... what is this?" Scully stammered. "Look, it was just a good bye kiss." "Yeah, we've done everything else before you came." Marita said. Krycek glared at her angrily. "No, we did not! And you know it, Marita." "Oh, really?" Marita turned to Scully and laughed. "Come on, look at him! He's pathetic. He's one armed. If he hadn't BEGGED me to have sex with me- he said he wasn't getting any from you- I'd never would have agreed to it." He wanted to wipe that smug smile off her face. But of course, he'd never use force against a woman. Especially not his ex-girlfriend, the first woman that he loved, the first woman that understood him. Still, it was hard to keep the anger inside and it showed on his face. There was a ear shattering sound and for a moment he had thought that someone tossed a gas can through the window again. It took him a fraction of a second to realize that his door has been busted down. Men and women in bullet-proof vests and guns poured into the apartment. "Freeze, FBI!!!" One said. Krycek raised his hands to show that he had no weapon. "Whoa! Wait! What's going on here?!" Krycek asked. Mulder stepped out of the crowd. "Krycek, you son of a bitch!" Mulder decked Krycek on the chin with a right hook then drove his foot into Krycek's stomach. Krycek fell to the ground and his first instinct was to hit back, but with the roomful of FBI agents, he thought otherwise. "Mulder! What are you doing here?" Scully asked. "Scully!" Mulder turned to Krycek and hit him again. "You bastard! You took her!" Krycek gasped for air on the ground while shaking his head wildly. "No..." He choked out. "Give it up, Krycek! David Rivers confessed to everything! You plotted the murders, we know!" Mulder kicked him again. "Alex Krycek, you're under arrest for the murder of Bill Scully Jr, Tara Scully and Matthew Scully. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you can not afford one, one will be provided for you..." + + + + + + 8: 39 PM New York City Detention Hall The clock's ticking was unusually loud, surrounded by the dead silence. Scully sat across from Krycek, looking at him with accusing and watery eyes. "Did you do it?" She asked. "Dana, no!" Krycek said crossly. "I most definitely did not." "Here's the story, Alex. David Rivers confessed to killing my brother. But he said that you were the one who plotted everything. Now the FBI believes that you killed my brother and his family. And you kidnapped me and Marita." Scully folded her arms. "What do you say to that?" "Lies! You know very well that I did not kidnap you nor Marita. Wha- what is Marita saying about this?" "She claims that she was not aware that you were a murderer. She... sticks to the story of how you begged her to have sex." "What?! Now... now that is not true." "Then how did she know that I wasn't- to quote- 'giving you any'?" "I don't know!" Krycek threw his hand up in the air. "Maybe you told someone. But somebody set me up. I didn't kill Bill and I didn't sleep with Marita. At least not on purpose." "I didn't tell anyone about us. Except my mother, so unless you think my mother set you up..." "Well, are you sure that you didn't tell anyone else?" "No. Just my mother." She paused. "What about you?" "Do you really think I have that much of a social life? Who am I going to tell?" "Did you know David Rivers?" She asked. "I... don't know David Rivers. Honey, I've never heard of the guy before in my life." "Then why does he know you?" "I don't know! I'm just as confused about this as you are." "God..." She sighed. "I'm going back to the apartment to get some of my things. I'm going to go stay with my mother." "Okay." He nodded. "Hey, babe, be careful. It's better if they didn't know we were involved." She nodded. As she past him, she bent down to give him a kiss on the forehead then left the room. + + + + + + 9: 30 PM Scully turned off the engine of the black Saab and stepped out of the car. She walked briskly to the entrance of the apartment door. The friendly black guard, Jimmy, sat at the front desk and he stood up when he saw her. "Ms. Scully?" He called. She slowed down to talk to him. "Good evening, Jimmy." She said. "Good evenin', Ms. Scully." He said. "Say, what was with the FBI agents here this afternoon?" "Oh... it... it... that... that was nothing." Scully lied. She wouldn't want to cause a panic. "Oh. Oh! Yeah, yeah. Like that time Mr. Helkin's friend showed up with those two woman cops." Jimmy shrugged. "Though they turned out to be strippers." "Whoa... wait. What strippers? Mr. Helkin's friend?" She asked. "Mr. Helkin has had a friend over for a couple of nights before you came, Ms. Scully. The last night he came, Mr. Helkin's friend brought these strippers. He said they were to reward Mr. Helkin for his services. Sounded like they had some fun." Jimmy shook his head. "Young men these day..." "A friend?" Scully paused. She reached into her purse and pulled out a manilla envelope. From the envelope, she pulled out a picture and showed it to Jimmy. "Is this him?" "Yeah!" Jimmy exclaimed. "That's Mr. Rivers alright. Hmm... can't 'member his first name though." "David?" She asked. "That's right, miss!" Jimmy nodded. "That's him alright. Awfully nice fellow." "Thank you."
