Disclaimer & Info see part I Destiny, Part 6 + + + + + + 10: 08 PM New York Detention Hall Scully walked slowly down the hall to where the interrogation room was. She ordered the security guards outside to leave. Then she stomped into the room where Alex Krycek was still sitting. "Dana!" Krycek said happily. Scully ignored him. Instead, she went into the room next door, where detectives can view what was going on in the interrogation room looking through a glass that was a mirror on the other side. She pulled down the shades and locked another door that lead into the hall. Then she went through the original door that she came in and back into the interrogation room. Krycek stood up to greet her. She greeted him back with a slap. "Bastard!" She spat at him. "Dana..." Krycek looked shocked. "What? What'd I do?" "You lied to me about David Rivers! You did know him, you son of a bitch!" She screamed at him. "Oh... wait, listen to me." Krycek pleaded. She hit him again. He didn't respond, just looked at her with puppy eyes. Normally, she'd immediately regret what she had done and hold him. But the eyes weren't having an effect on her. Now she just hated him. "God damn lying dick! Now it all makes sense. You came into my life and made yourself look like the innocent one. You hired those men to kidnap us. You faked the beatings on the clift. Then you hired more men to be waiting there when we got back. No wonder it was so easy for you to play the hero! You made feel like I would only be safe if I was with you. You made me trust you. You pretended to love me and tricked me into falling in love with you! That was all a lie! Everything that happened over the last few days was one big lie!" She raised her hand and swung at him again, but this time he ducked. "Dana, sweetheart, listen to me. I didn't 'make you' do anything. I didn't 'trick you' to fall in love with me. I've only be truthful to you. I meant every word I said. Everything I've done was not to deceive you but to show you how much I love you, okay, baby?" He said gently. "Damn it, stop calling me these pet names! In fact, I want you to stop calling me Dana." "Oh, come on, Dana" He lifted his hand and stroked her face with the back of his hand. She pulled away abruptly. "Fuck you!" She screamed angrily at him and attempted to slap him again. He tilted his head to the side and watched her hand fly past his face. That didn't do him any good. She began taking wild swings at him. Each time he avoided and ducked the punches with ease. When she realized that before she was only able to slap him because he had let her, it made her even more angry, thinking that he was still trying to trick her. "Dana, wait." Krycek begged her, backing away into a corner to avoid her punches. She began beating his wildly on the chest with both fists, cursing and shouting obscene languages at him. At first, he stood tall and took the punches as they came. Then he decided that he had enough. With no warning at all, he hugged her tightly. His right arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her into him. Her arms were tucked tightly between their bodies with no where to move. He twisted around and pushed her against the wall. His face leaned in to kiss hers. "No..." Scully protested softly but made no attempt to turn her face away. He kissed her mouth passoniately, like they had kissed the first time. After he pulled away, he pushed her body tight against the wall so she would still have no place to move. He pulled his arm out and brushed away the hair that was in her eye. "Dana... me and David go way back. We were friends in high school. We sort of lost track of each other in college. When we met again, he was bitter and angry at Bill. I helped him through it and convinced him that it wasn't Bill's fault. I told him that it was fine if occasionally he hung around their apartment to look at Tara as long as it didn't turn into stalking. Yes, he's been to my apartment. The whole stripper thing was just a joke we play on each other a lot. I don't know why he betrayed me and said that I plotted the murder. But I didn't do it." He kissed her again. When they parted, she studied his face carefully. She stared deep into his eyes and she didn't see a murderer or a liar and she didn't feel hatred towards him. She saw the sweet, handsome Alex Krycek that she fell in love with for some reason. Krycek was easing up on her, relieving the pressure on her body by backing away a little. She could move her arms again. She puts her arms around his waist and leaned her head against his shoulders and began crying softly. His head rested on top of hers and whispered loving phrases into her ear, comforting her. It felt so right and neither of them wanted this to end or be disturrbed. But it seems like that nothing is going their ways these days. "What the fuck?!" Was the booming voice that awoke them back to the real world. Somebody was outside the room and weren't too happy about the interrogation room being locked. They heard two loud bangs and then Mulder and Agent Jeff Spender was standing in the doorway, having kicked down the door. When they broke in, Krycek and Scully were still in each other's embrace. Seeing Mulder, Krycek had to act quickly. His impulse was to slam Scully against the wall and take her gun. Which he did. His next impulse told him to hit her hard on the face and knock her to the ground. He did that too. When his impulses passed, he was amazed and ashamed at what he had done. He turned away from Mulder and looked to Scully lovingly and apologetically. She gave him a little smile and mouthed the word "go" to him. "You fucking little asshole!" Mulder charged at Krycek. Krycek lifted his left leg and front kicked Mulder right in the stomach. Mulder dropped to the ground on his knees. Krycek brought up his arm and hit Mulder hard in the back of his neck with the butt of the gun that he had took from Scully. Mulder dropped to the floor face down. "Freez-" Spender started to draw his gun. Krycek cocked his gun and aimed it at Spender's forehead. He quickly ran to Spender and grabbed him by the neck. Then he got behind Spender and put him into a headlock. "Alright, we're gonna move towards the door nice and easy." Krycek said menacingly, shoving the gun into Spender's head. "Okay, okay!" Spender held his arms up away from where his gun was. FBI agents rushed towards them but stopped when they saw that Spender was being held hostage. "Back!! Everyone back!!" Krycek screamed. The FBI agents followed Krycek and Spender all the way to the parking lot. Krycek pointed his gun at Spender and ordered him to get into hiss car. Then he ordered Spender to drive, with the FBI agents still tailing them. + + + + + + "You okay?" Mulder asked her as he helped her off the ground. "I'm fine, Mulder." She nodded and rubbed her face where Krycek had hit her. Then ignoring Mulder, Scully pushed past him and left the room. Mulder's hand tightly rolled into a fist and he groaned painfully when he struck the wall with it. "Fuck!" He cursed and rubbed his fist. Scully thought that he hadn't seen them. She thought that he hadn't seem them in each other's arm. Resting their heads on each other's shoulder. But he did. He saw all that. He also saw the pain that was in Krycek's eyes when he pushed her and hit her. He saw how Krycek looked at her when he realized what he had done. He saw how Scully smiled back at him, gave him a confident glance and mouthed the word "go". He saw the love exchanged between them. And he was not happy with it. Anna's words sunk into him. "She can never love a man like you" were her exact words. And those words hurt him and stung him. He wondered that if there was any truth to what she said. But he shook those thoughts away quickly. No matter if Scully can't love him. He loves her and he wants her. As long as she belonged to him, he would be satisfied. And he would do anything to make her belong to him. + + + + + + 11: 59 PM Route 51 Krycek stared out the window in deep thought as Spender drove the car besides him. The gun was on the dashboard where either one of them could reach it at anytime. Spender's gun was still in its holster, where he could reach it and blow Krycek's head out before he an even react. But he didn't do that. Instead, he just drove in silence. Along the road, the woods grew thicker and the cars dimished. Finally, they were in the middle of nowhere and there hadn't been a car in sight for the past hour. Spender pulled the car onto the side of the road. "Think we lost them?" Krycek said sarcastically. "Yes." Spender said with a dead serious face. "You've really got it bad for this girl, don't you?" "Shut up, Jeffrey." Krycek growled. "But yes, I'm in love with her." "Alex Krycek in love. Ha!" Spender laughed. "I thought I'd never live to see the day." "Shut up." "Tsk, tsk." Spender clicked his tongue. "You could've gotten off. But no. You were afraid that Mulder would find out about you and the red head and for the best interest of the red head, you escaped. By holding me hostage." "No, you know I could never have in a million years gotten off. I was set up. Whoever's doing this wouldn't let me walk." "Well, you got a point there." Spender paused. "Talk to Marita. I'll bet she'll know who's setting you up." "Yeah, I will. But I gotta lay low for a while until this blows over. Then I'm going to go track down that bitch and I'm going to kill her." Krycek said seriously. "No, you won't." Spender laughed. "Number 1, you're too nice to women. You let them take advantage of you. Number 2, you're still in love with her. When you see her again, you'll bend over and take it up the ass." "Thank you, Jeffrey. But I am over her already." Krycek shook his head. "Right. I'm sure. You might want to talk to David while you're at it. I don't know why he would betray us like that. I mean... we all go way back. Of course, there's probably women and money involved." "Me. He betrayed me." Krycek said. "He didn't betray you. At least I don't think so." "What if he told the Resistance or the Colonization about our operation?" Spender asked. "Tell them what, that we've been working to destroy the Pandora Project because we don't want either of them to create those monsters? Well, I don't work for the Resistance anymore and I'm running from every carbon based life form on earth. I got no worries. But you. They'll kill you if they find out that you're trying to sabotage the Project. And you can't do a thing about it. You quit the Resistance and you're dead. Even if the Resistance doesn't track you down and kill you, the Colonization will know that you've lost your backup and _they'll_ kill you." Krycek sighed. "I remember when you, David and me were in high school and talked about what great men we're going to be someday. Then when we reunited 10 years later we joined the Resistance. Then we branched out of the Resistance to destroy the Pandora Project against the wishes of the Resistance. Now look where we are. On a deserted road, running from the law." "First of all, I was in the FBI before I joined the Resistance. You were unemployed. Second of all, you talked me and David into joining the Resistance and branching out. Besides, you're running from the law, not me. I'm just a hostage." Spender corrected him. "And I AM a great man, thank you very much." "Actually, DAVID talked US into joining the Resistance. I talked you guys into branching out. And you're not a great man. You're the bastard son of the man who can't make up his mind between the Resistance or Colonization." "Shut up." Spender sneered. "Hey, you better leave now." Alright. Put your gun on the dashboard and get out of the car." Krycek ordered. Spender did as he was told and then stepped out of the car. Krycek moved over to the driver seat and rolled down the window. "Safe trip, Alex." "Thanks. Keep an eye on Dana for me." "Will do." Spender promised. "Hey, Jeff, come here." Krycek said. Spender stepped close and poked his face into the window. Krycek lifted his synthetic arm and rammed it into Spender's nose. "Ow! Bastard!" Spender groaned as he went down. "Sorry, Jeff. You understand, right? I can't let you go without a scratch on you." "Of course I understand, you fucking bastard. You couldn't have warned me?!" Spender yelled. "Would you have let me hit you?" "Well, no." Spender rubbed his nose. "God, I think you broke it." "Good." Krycek said before he floored it and left a cloud of dust choking Spender's lungs. + + + + + + She was lying in her old childhood bed. After she brushed Mulder off, she went back to Krycek's apartment to get her things. Then she went to her mother's, where Anna and Charles was also staying. She felt slightly guilty about leaving Mulder like that, but she was in no mood to deal with his whiny and arrogant attitude towards Krycek. Angry voices was coming from next door. Anna and Charles was having an argument. She and her mother knew better than to disturb them at a time like this. She heard a door slam and a car squeal and quiet sobbings from next door. Charles has left the house angrily. She's never seen or heard Charles act like that before. Especially not to Anna. Her thoughts turned back to Krycek again. Did she believe him about David Rivers? Does she still love him? If he wasn't lying, he wasn't telling the whole truth either. She could see it in his eyes. She decided that she doesn't believe him. Now the question that remains is that can she love a man who's lied to her. Her mind is telling her no, but her heart is telling her yes. What about Mulder? She has been in love with him for the past 5 years. Now he's just begun to pay attention to her and she's just going to brush him off like that? 5 years. For 5 years that man has treated her like a good friend. For 5 years, she's sat in that office everday staring at him. He, of course, never noticed her staring. He was always too busy burying his nose in alien abduction stories. She've always wanted to kiss those sensual lips that he touches with his hand whenever he's nervous. She's always loved the way his long arms are wrapped around her, it's a special treat that she gets usually after some psycho kidnaps her or she annouces she has cancer. Psychopaths and cancer. That's what it takes for the man to show that he actually cares. As for Krycek? She believes his Pandora story and no longer thinks of him as a murderer. But still, she couldn't help but feel a little guilty when she's with him. And he fights with her more than she fights with Mulder. It was always little, unmentionable fights that lasts a few minutes. But she doesn't even know why they fight. As of now, Mulder looked like the more appealing candidate. At least that's what her brain tells her. She heard footsteps coming up the stairs and going into the next room. Low mutterings. Then muffled moaning. It appears that Charles and Anna has made up. She tried to stuff her ears with a pillow. She sighed. It was no use. She found herself wishing that Krycek was by her side. Krycek, not Mulder. She suddenly realized that she might never see Krycek again. He was on the run from the law. Already, she missed him. It brought tears to her eyes. She dried her eyes with the back of her hands. The moaning had stop and was replaced by soft muttering. She closed her eyes. Crying has made her tired. She slowly drifted to sleep. Tomorrow would be another day. + + + + + + July 5th, Thursday 1: 13 AM Upper East Side New York "What the hell have you done?!" The First Elder bellowed. "I'm making her vunerable so she can come back to me." Mulder replied. "Our time is running out, Mulder." The First Elder said angrily. "I have no more patience for your antics. I have no patience to wait for you to wine and dine your partner. Your goal is off now. Your goal is to get the formula and serve the Colonization, remember?! You're off the team!" "You can't do that!" Mulder said. "I just did. Mulder, I want you to stay away from Dana Scully from now on." The First Elder said. "I'll handle everything from here." "I won't let you." Mulder said, a gun was now suddenly in his hands. "Mulder, put that down!" The First Elder ordered. Mulder ignored him and raised his arm. He aimed the gun at the First Elder's chest and shot him. A little hole with deep red blood pouring out was now at the First Elder's chest. "I'm so tired of listening to you." Mulder pressed the gun against the First Elder's forehead. "Mulder!" The First Elder gasped. "My Consortium colleagues will avenge my death. The Colonization will track you down like a dog and kill you. Your source of income will be cut off." "No. Your Consortium colleagues already suspect you working for the Colonization. I'm eliminating a problem for them. The Colonization doesn't even know that I'm working for you. Nobody does, actually. How are they going to find me? And you forgot you gave me your safe combination. You have about, what, a billion dollars in your account and that safe? I'll just take your money. Nobody will miss the money. You took it from your Consortium colleagues anyway." "Mulder... no." The First Elder pleaded. "Say good night." Mulder said quietly. Then he pulled the trigger. + + + + + + Five Months Later (December 5th, Friday) 8: 15 AM The Basement Office The heat wave passed. It was freezing again. She still received no word from Krycek. For the first four weeks, she looked eagerly to her mailbox, internet address, and answering machine for any letter, e-mail, or message from Krycek. Then she slowly gave up. For the next four weeks, she began slowly convinced that he was dead. Many times she woke up in the middle of the night crying because she had dreamt him dead. She was the most vunerable during that September month. It was exactly when Mulder started to put the moves on her again. She didn't know whether to accept or refuse his advantages. She was scared, frightened, and was looking for comfort. Her mother was in no shape to take of anyone else. And Anna and Charles must have argued about something big because a week later they split for Europe. They wanted to "take some time off and be with each other". They had savings that would allow them to tour Europe. She had no one else to turn to except Mulder. He's inheriated some money lately from an Uncle Leo. She's never heard of this "Uncle Leo" before. But there you have it- one billion dollars. He hasn't quit work. But he has bought a new car, a new house- with a bed in it! He's even bought a new desk for her. And now every morning he comes in with a rose for her. At first, she was a little suspicious. But she trusted him. He began taking her out to dinner every night. They've hugged, kissed and groped on these dates. He's always offered her to spend the night at his place but she's always refused. "Ah, Dana Scully!" Mulder laid the usual rose on her desk. "My ray of sunshine!" He wore Ray-Ban sunglasses and a sharp Armani suit. He has also developed a sense of fashion and an obsession for expensive suits. Frankly, she liked the older Mulder better. Now he seems so... complacent. Yet, he was her only emotional support when she was trying to get over Krycek even though she couldn't even tell him the whole story. "Morning Mulder." She smiled at him and accepted the rose as usual. "Today, I grant you special permission to call me Fox." Mulder grinned. "Okay, Mulder, what's up?" She asked. "What?" Mulder replied innocently. "Fox?! What's wrong now? Tell me." "Nothing! Everything's great!" Mulder pulled up a chair by her desk and sat down. "I just... feel like the luckiest man in the world." His words sent a chill down her spine. Krycek had said the same thing to her the day he disappeared. "No, you don't." Scully shook her head sadly. "I'm a curse." "No! No, you're not." Mulder said sincerely. "Scu- Dana, I'm going to ask you something but I'm afraid you're going to say no." "Shoot." Scully leaned back in her chair and waited for the question. "Scully..." Mulder got off the chair and down on one knee. Her heart started beating faster. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a box covered with red velvet. "I know, I'm sort of old fashioned. I have to do it this way. Dana?" "Yes?" She whispered. "Would you marry me?" He opened the box and showed her the diamond ring. She was absolutely speechless. "I..." "Dana. I can make you very happy." Mulder said eagerly. He took the ring out of the box, he took her hand and slipped the ring on her finger. "C'mon, what do you say? I just want to make you the happiest woman ever." He gave her the puppy eyes. "Mulder..." So many things was racing through her mind. She was having difficulty processing this. "Dana..." Mulder locked eyes with her. "I love you. With all my heart. If you're going to say no, I'll understand. I can wait for you. I just want to love you and spend the rest of my life with you and take care of you." His words touched her. She looked at his adorable eyes. Then, without even thinking, she said yes. + + + + + + ***END OF PART 6***
