Disclaimer & Info see part 1 Destiny, part 9 + + + + + + 3: 14 PM Helicopters. Police cars. Paramedics. FBI agents. The helicopters were searching the rivers for the body of Alex Krycek. Who had called them here? Fox Mulder, of course. He called them after he had shot Marielle. What'd he tell them? The truth. The suspect for the death of Bill Scully showed up and he pushed the suspect off the edge. He sat on a giant rock, watching the paramedics bag Marielle's body and load Scully into the back of the ambulance. He had killed Marielle to make sure that no one would find out what really happened here. He didn't have the heart to kill Scully. "Mr. Mulder?" A young woman in a dark suit came over. "Yes?" Mulder responded, pretending to be in a daze. "I'm Detective Ghent. We uh.. we couldn't find Alex Krycek's body." "What?!" "It was a long river, Mr. Mulder. There was also a waterfall just two miles down. There's no way we could've found the body." Detective Ghent said. "Oh... but no one could have survived?" "Nope. No one could have survived that thing." "Oh..." Mulder sighed in relief. Alex Krycek was dead. So was Julie Marielle. Now he just had to take care of Scully. "Mr. Mulder, I'll need you to come down to the station with me." Detective Ghent said. "What for?" "There are some... questions to the circumstances of Julie Marielle's death." Detective Ghent said. "Do you think I killed her?" Mulder asked. "No! Well, yes. I mean, no!" Detective Ghent fumbled with her words. Mulder chuckled to himself. She was new. "I didn't kill her." Mulder stood up and towered over detective Ghent. "You've got to believe me." He stared into her eyes and examined her carefully. "Mr. Mulder, I'm not the one that has to believe you. The people, the judge, the jurors are the ones that has to believe you. If you are indeed innocent, you will have nothing to fear. " Detective Ghent said monotonusly, as if reciting from a book. Mulder decided then to make a bold move. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a thick stack of hundred dollar bills. He shook hands with detective Ghent. When he pulled away, he left the hundred dollar bills in her hand. Her fist clenched tightly around the bills. "It's a little thank you from me to you." Mulder winked. "A- a- a- ar- are y- yo- you b- b- bribing m- m- me?" Detective Ghent shook. "C'mon, you think I don't know what your life is like?" Mulder shook his head in sympathy. "A young, ambitious woman trying to make it out there with the big boys. Your talents are suppressed by your sexist superiors who constantly hit on you. You're making minimum wage, you're still working off your student loan and you can hardly pay the rent." "Sir, I- I- c- can't- a- a- accept-" "You can and you will." Mulder smiled. "Everybody does it. You just stuff that money in your pocket and walk away from me. Walk away. Just walk away." Mulder said almost hypnotically. "I'll take. Because I need it." Detective Ghent said. "But only because I believe you're fated to pay for what you did. And I know I'll pay for what I'm doing now." She shoved her hands into her pockets and walked away. + + + + + + Thee Months Later (March 12th), Friday 9: 54 PM Washington D.C. "...and I declare Dana Katharine Scully legally insane and recommend her to the Gretchen Institution." Dr. Sarah Megs said to the old professor sitting across from her. "Are you sure of this, Dr. Megs?" "I'm positive." Dr. Megs said. "After extensive testing, I've came to the conclusion that Dana Scully is in no condition to be out on the streets." "Have you talked to her family members about this?" "I have." "And?" "Her fiance, Fox Mulder, thinks that a little treatment would be good for her. Her mother and her brother has no opinions on the subject matter." "Very well." The old doctor sighed and stamped the manilla folder with the words 'approved'. He tossed the folder at Dr. Megs and directed her towards the door. She practically skipped out the door. Outside, she was greeted by a tall, lanky man. "What'd he say?" The man asked. "He approved." She giggled. "That's my Sarah! I knew you could talk him into it." The man kissed her on the mouth. "Fox... you know I would never let anything come between us." Dr. Megs replied. "Your fiancee being in an asylum would allow us to be together." "Exactly." Mulder kissed her again. His plan worked. Scully was now deemed mentally insane and no one would believe a word she says. "A little time in an asylum won't hurt Scully. I've been committed to a hospital before. It was actually fun." He smiled and kissed Dr. Megs again. It was so easy to get away with murder. "Fox, I do have something else to tell you." Dr. Megs said. "What is it?" "Your fiancee is pregnate." "What?!" Mulder exclaimed. "But- but that's impossible! She can't have kids." "Doctors make mistakes, Fox." Dr. Megs said softly. "Face it, she's got your kids." "What?!" He kicked the wall angrily. "Damn it!" "Fox..." Dr. Megs said gently. "This can't be!" Mulder said furiously. "Just when everything is going great, life just go ahead and screws me over!" "Well.. maybe... maybe this is fate." "Fate?!" Mulder moaned. "God, not you too. Why the hell is everyone talking to me about fate?!" "Because when the impossible happen or things don't go their way, humans blame God and fate." "Well, I don't! I don't believe in fate! Yes, everything is screwed up, but I believe you control your own life." Mulder wandered down the hall. "Fox, where are you going?" "To visit an old friend." + + + + + + 11: 37 PM Washington D.C. Mulder hid in the shadows of the parking lot and waited for him to come. The man in the Jeep. It wasn't really that hard to figure out who he was. Mulder had already suspected that someone inside the FBI was working with Krycek. After asking around and stuff, he got his man. He saw Spender step out of the elevator. He was coming close. Mulder stepped behind the pole and waited. In a few minutes, Spender was before him. That's when he jumped on him. "Hey!" Spender cried as he was knocked to the floor. Mulder sat on top of him and beat him with his fists. Then he grabbed him by the collar. "Hello, Spender." Mulder sneered. "Mulder! What the hell?!" Spender spitted blood out from his mouth. "I know, Spender." Mulder whispered. "Know what?!" "You and Krycek!! You were in the Jeep!" Mulder slapped Spender. "Do not play dumb with me!" "Damn it, Mulder, get off me!" Spender raised his arms to defend himself. "I don't know what the hell you're talking about!" "Bullshit!" Mulder whipped out his gun from behind his back and shoved it into Spender's cheek. "Alright, fine!" Spender lifted his elbow and knocked the gun away. "I was there. And I saw what you did." "Listen to me- you saw nothing. Nothing, you got that?!" "You think you can make the truth go away by shoving a gun into my face?" Spender laughed. "I can kill you." Mulder said. "But I'm not going to because I don't want any more blood on my hands." "I know too much, Mulder. I know you killed Alex. I know you killed Marielle. And I know you're sleeping with that shrink to get Scully committed to a hospital. I know that she's pregnate. You are a sick bastard, Mulder." Spender said. Mulder punched him again. "Shut up." Mulder took an envelope out of his pocket and threw it in Spender's face. "In here is 12 million dollars. You take this money and you quit the FBI. I don't want to hear another peep out of you." "And if I don't?" Spender asked. Mulder released Spender and stood up. "No one will believe that you even if you told them, Spender." Mulder said. "But if you don't do what I say, I will track you down and kill you. Do you accept my offer?" Spender fingered the envelope and looked hesistant. Finally, he answered. "Yes..." he said slowly. "Yes, I accept." + + + + + + Seven Months Later (October 15th), Sunday 4: 35 PM Gertchen Institution Her stomach hurted like hell. But what hurt more than her stomach was her heart. The birth is bringing everything up again. She had been trying to forget. Trying to forget that day. She used her time in the hospital to try to forget it. She wanted to get the image of Mulder pushing Krycek off the edge out of her mind. She wanted to stop hearing that sickening crack as Krycek hit the bottom. She was losing her sanity. Then when she got out of the hospital, she heard what they were going to do to her. Committ her. She knew she didn't act that crazy to be committed. She suspected someone was setting her up. But she didn't care. She wanted to be alone. She did not want to face her family. Especially her mother. She knew that she was pregnant. She can feel it. At first, she was in complete denial. The doctors said she couldn't have kids. It wasn't true. It can't be. Then she accepted it. Then came the question of whose baby it was. She was absolutely convinced that it was Krycek's. She remembered praying to God as sincerely as she can that she be granted a child. She started to laugh. Maybe she was crazy. She's having a child simply because she prayed? Well, it didn't really matter now. Her life can not be more fucked up. + + + + + + 4: 36 PM Gretchen Institution Charles Scully waited patiently outside the delivery room. With Krycek dead, they didn't have a chance in hell of extracting revenge on Mulder. Just when they were lost and wondering what to do, the news of the pregnancy came. Then they found a new goal. At exactly 4: 36, he heard the cry. The cry of an infant. He found himself smiling. Something he hasn't done in a long time. The door to the delivery room was opened. Anna Mince, in a green surgeon's gown, stepped out with an infant, wrapped in blankets, in her arms. "It's a boy." She said proudly. "Great." Charles said. "We should get moving." Charles motioned to the door. "Good idea." Anna nodded. Then she looked back into the delivery room. "You think we're doing the right thing?" "I know we're doing the right thing." Charles said. "To protect him, we have to keep him away from Mulder. C'mon, let's go." Charles grabbed Anna's arm and tugged her towards the left end of the hall. The door to the end of the hall was pushed open and a tall man was walking down the hall towards them. "Shit! Mulder!" Anna muttered. "What the hell is he doing here?!" Charles and Anna quickly turned around with the baby and started walking down the other end. But at the other end of the hall, a group of doctors were also walking down this way. "Come on, this way." Anna pushed Charles across the hall and into a janitor's closet. They shut the door and listened for footsteps. They heard the group of doctors pass. They heard Mulder go into the delivery room. Charles opened the door and checked the halls. Then Mulder came out of the delivery room. Charles quickly shut the door, leaving only a crack to see what was going on. Mulder was holding something in his arms. He was talking to a doctor. Scully's shrink. Dr. Sarah Megs. Mulder whispered something in Dr. Megs' ear. Then he turned and walked back down the direction that he came from. Charles finally realized what Mulder was holding in his arms. Mulder was holding another infant. + + + + + + October 16th, Monday 8: 14 PM St. Francis Hospital "Okay. Thank you." Charles hung up his cellphone and rubbed his eyes tiredly. They were at St. Francis Hospital on Long Island, New York. Afterall, they couldn't have dragged a newborn around. Charles had friends in the hospital and they could leave the baby here, away from Mulder, until the baby is old enough to leave. Anna touched his arm gently. "Well?" She asked. "I've called around. Guess what?" "What?" "God is one sick, twisted bastard." "Charles!" "I'm sorry. But..." Charles sighed. "Dana... had- you'll never believe this- twins. Fucking twins. Both boys. As if our problems weren't as great and confusing as it is." "Twins? How is it we were not informed of this?" Anna asked. "Nobody knew." Charles shrugged. "Dana had refused to do an ultrasound. Maybe she knew it was twins. I don't know." "I believe you were the one who believed in fate. Maybe this is fate." "Yeah, yeah, your fate, destiny, karma, blah blah blah..." Charles said. "I'm just so sick of it. Look at our lives. Completely ruined." "Not ruined. Just changed." Anna said. "And don't you think that it's such a conincidence that Mulder and the group of doctors caught us in the hallway at that exact time? That we were able to see the second boy?" "Great. So now we have one child here while Mulder has the other. Wonderful." Charles said sarcastically. "Charlie, you were the one who said that the battle of good and evil never ends. It just keeps going and going." Anna said. "Yeah?" "Yeah. I think this is fate speaking. Telling us that no matter how hard we try, the war never ends. You eliminate a problem or an opponet and another one comes along. It never ends, Charles. Fate leads us on one trail made of two different paths, tossing us back and forth between the two with no mercy. One path is the good, the rightousness, it drives us in a forward motion, pushing us to strive for our best, keeping us going from one day to the next. The other path is the evils of the world, taking us back two steps for every one step we take forward. It is made of our fears, our lost asperations, the hunger for power and greed. Fate throws us between these two paths, sometimes toying with us, leading us to believe that everything is fine, only to throw us into into the deepest dispear." Anna said softly. "Fate has a cruel sense of humor, bailing you out only when the absolute worse has come. We must respect fate, only because it has no respect for us. It controls us, shows us its power and we must abide. We have no choice between good and evil, it is fate that must decide." "Wow... heavy stuff." Charles laughed. Anna laughed too. She put her arm around his shoulders and hugged him. Soon he began crying and she cried with him too. Until neither of them knew whether they were laughing or crying. + + + + + + THE END + + + + + + So what'd you think? I'm actually thinking of writing a sequel now, considering the way I left things. Should I write a sequel? Or was the first one so bad that I shouldn't even bother? Drop me a line at TheRatRulz@aol.com Even if you have nothing to say, just e-mail me and tell me you read it so I don't think nobody's read this long ass fanfic. Once again, special thanks to Caitlin Fox for writing Anna's monologue on fate and the battle of Good VS Evil for me. "The truth IS out there... you just won't find it by chasing little green men."
